Introduction

So you want to get Hair Extensions but you've heard the horror stories but you're petrified that you'll end up bald and ugly and a lot poorer when it's all over? Well, if you don't do your homework then this may well happen. But there is a way to have beautiful hair using Hair Extensions without damaging your own hair, and in fact allowing your natural hair to grow longer and healthier in the process.

Where Do I Start?

There are many different types of Hair Extension systems on the market, but we have found the following system to be the best for last ability, look and cost:

Keraloc system Wefts/keratin protein:

This system has been developed and copyrighted by Hot Hedz. It involves the human hair being left on the weft/sewn part of the extension , we then use a tiny hook tool to pull your natural hair through the weft and created a waterproof heat activated seal . This seal then anchors the hair extension to your natural hair, this is repeated several time to hold the required amount of hair extensions needed.

It is not damaging to your own hair as the weight of the extension is evenly distributed through your whole head, so there is no pulling to create the damage. THIS SYSTEM WILL GROW OUT so, You will need to have the extensions uplifted on your natural hair growth at around 10 -12 weeks or 8 weeks if your hair is fine or fragile. The hair extension can be re–used, as long as you have looked after it will the correct shampoo/conditioner and styling products. Or if you choose you can re new the hair the same time as your uplift. It is vital that your hair is deep cleansed and oil free before application.

MICRO LOC INDIVIDUAL /SINGLE the best individual application

Micro loc (aka) micro rings micro links , individual extensions are used in conjunction with Remi, pre-bonded hair. A small, acrylic coated ring is clamped over the hair, holding it in place. They are an option for people who are not comfortable with fusion bonded extensions, and while the hair is top quality human hair, the ring method tends not to last as long as other methods. We will need to discuss your suitability to rings during the consultation.

It is recommend that ring extensions are not washed more than twice per week, but unlike other bonding methods, you are able to condition close to your roots as this will not affect the bonds. The rings ARE the kindest bonding method for hair, but it will very much depend on your suitability to this method.

Micro Loc extensions are applied approx 0.5" from the scalp and therefore you should not be able to feel the rings pulling your hair. If any extension feels uncomfortable at any time, please informus so that we can extract and re-apply comfortably. It is vital that your hair is deep cleansed and oil free before application. As with all hair extensions, application times can vary from 2-3 hours half head up to 4-6hrs full head.

Micro Loc weft application the best overall application method

This method does not use any heat during application and is ideal for anyone who has oily hair or sensitive scalp as no glue or adhesive products are used. The extension grow down naturally with your own hair and Therfore no damage is caused to natural hair and the extensions are re-usable.

Many clients are selecting micro ring extensions over the other extension systems, As this is the only technique in which glue or other chemicals are not required.

Therefore, clients feel free from the usual cautions and warnings such as avoiding heat when washing, drying and styling that would normally be applied when receiving fusion extensions.This system will last in the hair for 10-12 weeks then the extensions will need to be removed and lifted up on your natrual hair gwroth

Your extensions will remain secure througout their 10-12 duration. With 'NO MAINTENANCE'

APPLICATION

As with all hair extensions, application times can vary from 1-2 hours

It is vital that your hair is deep cleansed and oil free before application.

Keraloc Individual Strand Extensions

The Individual method involves taking small amounts (maybe 20-50 strands) of extension hair (natural or synthetic) and applying to small sections of your own hair by heat fusing with a keratin/ protein based resin. Then we use a waterproof seal to help them last longer.

These extensions usually last around 6 before they have to be added to, as you have to replace the extensions that shed and slide out. After 12 weeks you have to have them completely re-done you must have them removed by Hot hedz as we will do it without damaging your own hair.

Many people who sell this method to clients will swear that there is no damage to your own hair, this is only true if you have regular maintenance and have them removed correctly, if this maintenance is not followed properly you will get damage. I have failed to see a client who has previously had the individual method applied and not kept up regular MAINTENANCE without damage to their own hair. This method can be quite costly.

Weaved extensions

Wefts are attached to your head by sewing them to a tiny braid (we call it a track ) made out of your own hair. The track (known to hairdressers as a corn-row) runs horizontally around the back of your head. The tracks are done in the middle of your scalp underneath your hairline so you can't see them.

The crown area of your own hair covers the top track making the extensions seem invisible. The number and size of tracks matches the number and size of wefts. The wefts and tracks ideally should be made in different sizes in order to match exactly the way your hair would look if you had grown it that way yourself.

Once the tracks are done, the wefts are sewn to them and then your own crown area hair is blended with and combed over the extensions. From now on you have to think of the extensions as YOUR HAIR. This method is really only meant for afro hair or course/thick hair.

How Do I Look After Hair extensions?

You look after Hair Extensions the same as you would do long hair that you grew yourself. If you have never been able to grow your hair long before it is probably because you are killing it just as quickly as it grows. Here's a few tips:

1. Wash, condition and MOISTURIZE (very important) your hair every 2 - 3 days. The extensions do not receive your natural scalp oils and so need to have moisture added every wash. If you don't moisturize your hair extensions they will become brittle and break easily leading to split and ratty ends. We sell a good shampoo and conditiner which is especially formulated for Hair Extensions on our web site

2. Treat them with respect. They will not grow back if you yank at them with a brush, burn them with the blow dryer, kill them with chemicals. Be nice to them - they cost a lot of money so make sure you get your money's worth.

3. Always brush out all knots before you wash your hair, swim, or sleep. Start at the bottom and work your way up slowly using a paddle brush.

4. Make sure you wash in between the joins and bonds to keep your scalp clean and free of bacteria and it is important to wash the bonded areas with shampoo only or they will break down and not last the stated time.

5. We can provided several different Human hair grades: processed human hair will last approximately 2-4 months and Remy hair will last 6-8 months and Remy a+ will last around 12 months.The better quality the hair, the easier the extensions are to manage.

What Happens Next?

Every 6-8 weeks for weaves and Keratip individuals and 10-12 weeks for the Keraloc system micro ring wefts and individuals (average) your own hair will have grown. The braids/bonds will still be intact and the wefts will still be attached to the braids/bonds. At this time you will need to return to Hot Hedz and have the wefts removed and checked for any product build up, damage etc. The braids/bonds are then undone and redone back against your scalp and extension will feel like the first time you had it applied. Voila! You look beautiful again.
